Subcutaneous emphysema

Subcutaneaous emphysema may not be noticed by the victim except in extreme cases, although the diver might find his/her neck is swollen and have difficulty swallowing. The sound of his/her voice may change and it may be possible to notice a marked swelling of the neck. Movement of the skin near the collar bone may produce a crackling or crunching sound (crepitation).
